sWishmas Toy & Coat CommUnity Give-Back

Project sWish Chicago will host our annual sWishmas Toy & Coat CommUnity Give-Back on Saturday, December 21, 2024 sponsored by BCBSIL. The holiday event will be from 10 am-2 pm. Location will be disclosed upon registration.

Registration is mandatory and slots are limited and reserved for those in need. The event is for ages 0-14 only. One parent/guardian is invited to attend. Child(ren) MUST be present, no exceptions. Please use https://www.eventbrite.com/e/716981148917?aff=oddtdtcreator to register.

In addition to toys and coats, kids will participate in activities, snacks will be served (and lunch to go), one turkey and one produce box per family will be distributed.

April 4-6, KCF All-Girls National Championships

Join the Midwest’s Top Young Chess Players at the 15th Annual Greater Chicago K-12 Championships!

The Renaissance Knights Chess Foundation, Kasparov Chess Foundation, Chicago Public Schools, and SBB Research Group invite you to participate in the most anticipated chess event of the year—the 15th Annual Greater Chicago K-12 Chess Championships. This prestigious tournament will be held on February 8, 2025, at the iconic McCormick Place in Chicago.

August 24, PCS Back 2 School Community Giveback

Join Us at the Back 2 School Community Giveback!

We’re excited to team up with Project sWish to provide a special chess area at their Back 2 School Community Giveback event! Come join us at the Dusable Black History Museum on Saturday, August 24, from 12 – 5 pm. It’s a great opportunity to engage with the community, enjoy some chess, and kick off the school year with positivity and support.

April 20, Chicago Wolves Scholastic & Open Tournament

The Chicago Wolves & the Renaissance Knights Chess Foundation are pleased to invite players from the Chicagoland area to play in a rated or unrated tournament at the Allstate Arena Skyline Room and see the the Chicago Wolves vs. Iowa Wild game following the tournament.

Each entry to the tournament includes a ticket to the game. Each person accompanying a player to the Wolves game must have purchased a ticket.

The tournament is open to students in grades K-12 and adults. Players will participate in the following categories:

UNRATED SECTIONS

Unrated Scholastic (K-8 only)
For beginning chess players up to grade 8.  USCF membership is not required in this section

Unrated Open (K-12 & Adults)
For beginning chess players of all ages. USCF membership is not required in this section

The tournament is open to all girls under 18 years old as of January 1, 2024. Players will participate in the following categories: Under 8 years old, under 10, under 12, under 14, under 16, and under 18; sections.

Feb 24 – 25, 27 Hours of Peace

We are teaming up with Project sWish to bring 10-15 male high school chess students from Chicago Public Schools to participate in the 27 Hours of Peace event at Kennedy King College from February 24, 10 am – February 25, 1 PM.

The students will spend part of the time at the chess pavilion playing/teaching chess to the other participants.

Students interested in participating in the 27 hours of peace at Kennedy King College need to complete the INTEREST FORM.

The parents of the students selected will have to complete a permission form and arrange for their child to be dropped off and picked up from the college.

Cops & Kids Chess Program

Promoting Non-Violence and Positive Engagement

The Chicago Public Schools, Renaissance Knights Chess Foundation, in partnership with the Chicago Police Department, developed the Cops & Kids (C&K) Chess initiative. C&K is a year-round after-school program for elementary (5-8) and high school students which includes 2 tournaments with student and police officers and Criminal Justice professionals. The program is intended to promote peace in the home, schools and communities by increasing positive relationships between youth and police officers while utilizing the game of chess as the vehicle for engagement. The initiative utilizes Restorative Justice Practices to empower students through respect, responsibility, relationship-building, while teaching how to resolve conflicts through cooperative and constructive ways.
