In 2007, Renaissance Knights partnered with Chicago Public Schools to establish and manage the Academic Chess Program.

Over the years, this partnership has grown the program into the largest and most successful district-run chess initiative in the nation, with chess teams in over 100 schools.

Today, Renaissance Knights continues to work closely with the CPS Academic Competition Department to ensure the league provides high-quality competitive chess programming to approximately 2,500 students each year.

In 2009, Renaissance Knights partnered with the Kasparov Chess Foundation to create the Greater Chicago K-12 Chess Championship.

Since then, the Greater Chicago K-12 Championship has grown into the into the largest and most successful US Chess rated tournament held annual in Illinois.

Since 2011, Renaissance Knights has been the local organizer of the KCF All-Girls National Chess Championship, which has grown into the largest and most prestigious chess tournament for girls under 18 in the nation.

In 2015, Renaissance Knights, in collaboration with Chicago Public Schools and the Chicago Police Department, developed the Cops & Kids Chess Program.

This year-round program, designed for students in grades 5-12, promotes non-violence and fosters positive engagement between youth and police officers through the game of chess.

Today, the program is hosted in over 20 schools across the city, serving more than 350 students annually.
